Opinon: Could Mother Hen Be Defending Hawk? – By Abdul Ibroheem

Wonderful people of Kwara, I keep my greetings to you. When the household is sour even the streets look a desert. This is a period for sober reflection. We may end up after reading my piece.  Instead of greeting the rulers and the ruled I would delve into the discussion proper and let your mind be the judge whether fanfare should precede the hearing sitting of of Chief caught pant down with his son’s women. But I sincerely hope, this meets you all well.
.

So do our forefathers say, a man shall not sleep while fire guts the roof of his house. But Kwara may have been unassuming that there’s fire on the rooftop and no one seem running to quench the spread. This state is known far and wide for its relative peace and unity so much it nick the appellation the State of Harmony. However, that may soon be a thing of past if we don’t make an hard call to the hardcore dealers merchandising the lives of our ignorant, jobless youth in a means to achieve their aims or even political scores. Will you say your ears never heard the news? Did you never see the trailer? Do we fold our hands and also become deaf and dumb and let this bloody trend continues?

.

These questions unavoidably will make me take the hard shots from here. Apologies if I talk hard on your master or the Lord. To be quite honest, it’s a nation wide act for the political class to use thugs to achieve their selfish bids and other sinister motives. But it find its way to Kwara in the run- in to the 2003 gubernatorial elections. During the electioneering time, both Saraki Snr and the incumbent Governor Lawal used thugs and cultist for political struggles and since then it became a trend spreading like a wildfire from house to house. I will hold the two late elder statesmen for the birth of the ugly and deadly trend.

.

However, out of many valuable legacies worthy of emulation and inheritance, our leaders found thuggery and hooliganism a legacy to bequeath to the state. How patriotic! Well, just like the elders say, an elephant do not beget a dwarf child. Bukola Saraki made the malevolent practice topnotch ,he made it a lucrative venture. You may ask the public for the facts. The whole state cannot hate a man.

.

When I was younger our parents would scold and quip that truancy and hooliganism pays not a single useful dime, it only buys death at a high price. Maybe that was the Kwara of the past. Our Kwara in recent times, political thugs and cultists live in affluence and opulence to the chagrin of the educated , hardworking state workers. You do not need a head for a proof of assault unless one is an hypocrite, instances abound our surroundings. At a fingertip, a homely Kwaran would mention a dozen that enjoyed/ enjoys the humongous pride and grace of of being a lout, cultist or assassin to the political overlord. This is so with others too, they just haven’t been caught. May the Lord reveal inner, covert, dark secret of the evildoers staying in darkness shooting arrows of discord and disunity to the peaceful aura of the state.

.

What I found most puzzling and appalling is the seeming lack of efforts of Kwarans and the royalty to dissociate themselves from the smears and dirt the recent revelation brings to the state and the covetous stool. Rumor may rightly be traveling that the Emir and his Chiefs support Saraki in every ignoble, misrepresenting and shady acts of his. People may rightfully start quipping what the Emir has not voiced his displeasure. Though some like me may be aware that the monkey sweats, only that the body hair covers it. But Saraki is a Chief of Emir of Ilorin, won’t the Emir say a thing to this?

.

This is the right time for our Exalted Emir to display his unwavering stand against impunity and indiscipline of the highest order. A proverb says mother hen do not look while the hawk make a dish of her chick. Saraki’s connection in both Offa robbery and and infamous mass killings  and the arrest of some deadly cult members is a demonstration of the ignobility and irresponsibility of the persona in contrast to the picture he waves. Saraki has just demonstrated he is unworthy of the covetous position of Turaki in the emirate.  Ilorin, the ancient town of Islamic doctrines and knowledge, the ancestral home of famous Sheiks and Ulamas has become a laughing stock again due to the antics of an eerie Chief. Does that not call for sober reflection? Is this in anyway a good publicity for the illustrious town?

I know some people may want to say it was political machination to soil his name because he’s even richer than the state! Applause! Some may even say he never sent them to rob. Bravo. But I will take the pain to enlighten you that whether direct or indirect, aiding /abetting of criminality remains a punishable offence under the law. It’s even more grievous on our values and ethics as a town that our very Turaki sponsors thugs! You heard me right the cars were said to be from him. They also work for him to disrupt elections. Is that befitting of a Chieftain from Ilorin?

.

You may want to argue this is because he’s a political icon or he stands against the federal government. I will remind you none of these crimes were committed outside Kwara! It’s just a case of nemesis catching a perpetrator. Do not shed tears on his behalf. Remember, deep down your heart you know the truth. Kwara’s never short of great sons who hold one political post or the other. In fact, the state can hold candles to others for its sons meritorious deeds presently and in time past. From the incorruptible Late Justice Mustapha Akanbi to the altruistic Prof. Oba Abdulraheem, inimitable Usman Mustapha and  and our  pride Prof. Abdulganeey Oloyede among others are worthy ambassadors of this town any day anytime. None ever dent the name of the state like the Chief dealer.

.

For the sake of clarity, I should also remind you almost no one has courted trouble and be accused of irregularities, corruption and embezzlement viz other criminal offences unheard of a Islamic Chieftaincy holder than Saraki. From Panama to SGB, CCB and Offa mass killings our children will be grateful to him for providing many tales to learn of a man who defame their fatherland.

.

Off the shores of Kwara, Saraki means an oppressor, a corrupt, evil, shady politicians to some. He’s doing more harms than good to the state on all fronts. When will Emir cut his bluff? Will Emir leave our powerful Turaki unchecked? Every chieftaincy of the emirate only deserves a pious, worthy soul. Can we say that of Saraki to the moon and beyond? Emir’s sincerity and unbiased discretion is on the line. The respected and magnificent city of Ilorin should only have a chief we can vouch for and not a constant visitor to the accused box.

.

Aftermath of Offa massacre, Oloffa sacked a chief his son was reportedly a suspect. Mai Martaba…. Sheu!!! ( with respect and reverence) also reportedly suspected a certain Mogaji Nda for his son’s involvement in Cultism. But when will Emir wield the big stick and axe Turaki too? Will Baba ever do that? Or will Emir says he’s not aware that his Turaki enrolls and pay the youth of his town some dirty money to unleash mayhem on his people? OK. Baba may not be aware. But could our Exalted Emir not be aware that Turaki’s unclean and clandestine activities is a stain on him? He’s a Chief of Ilorin that Baba should think before anything. He’s doing more harm than good to the city.

.

Dear Kwaran, thanks for reading to the point. You deserve my greetings now. If our respected Emir won’t do the needful one may begin to wonder if the rumour making round that a High Chief protects a thief is true. Make no mistake, I know our Mai martaba is clean and pious he just wouldn’t have known all these. You owe him a duty to make this piece get to him before Emir’s reputation become dented beyond repair. Lets make our voices heard that Saraki disgraces the town and the state. Maybe when Emir become aware he will do what Oloffa did to a eering Chief. Maybe Baba will find his mojo again and weed a shameless Turaki, an unworthy subject to him. Maybe Emir will do our bidding.

.

In case you made the Emir aware and Baba found all the allegations baseless he would do well to set up a committee comprise of incorruptible Chiefs to gauge the truth. He may also ask the public too as the Father of all, their opinion about a man dragging the city good name in the mud. He may go on asking the families of the deceased in Offa whether he should strip him of the title or not. They may ask the parents of the suspected cultists too what to do to a man that sponsors and encourages their ward to embrace criminality. Maybe,, just maybe, they would be happy with him.

But if the truth remain as glaring and obvious like this and the Emir fails to take a drastic step against this drastic menace, I fear and worry, like others I may start thinking too our respected, revered and exalted Emir maybe a High Chief protecting a big thief.
