The youths in Okekere community in Ajikobi ward of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara this morning mobilized themselves in large numbers to protest marginalization of their community in allocation of democracy dividends by th government in power.
The protest which began as earlier as 8:00Am saw the youths marching round all the nooks and crannies of the community with placards inscribed with different demostrative statements after they had sealed off the party secretariat of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) located at a stone-throw distance from the family house of former chairman of Federal Character Commission and PDP chieftain Prof. Oba Abulraheeem.
Some of the youths who took part in the protest confided in Legend Lens that, what they are fighting for has nothing to do with political party affliation but democratic demands for their deserved privileges from the ruling government and they chose to lock up the APC secretariat in their community in order to pass accurately their message to the party stakeholders whose influences have not in any way affected the community in positive manner.
The statement released and signed by the chairman of Okekere Youth Movement Com. Oseni Jamiu Elelu and the secretary Garba Nurain Adabale, reads…
“The entire youths of Okekere community in Ajikobi ward of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, hereby registered her grievances in a very peaceful manner in respect to marginalization of our community in allocation of dividends democracy.
As law abiding citizens of Nigeria and Kwara, we resulted to employ this democractic tool in order to make known to the concerned authority our displeasure with the distribution of political apointments, and youth empowerment slots across our ward without any consideration for the people of Okekere community.
Our community, aside hosting the ward secretariats of the two leading political parties in the country i.e APC and PDP, is one of the most important communities whose roles in every electioneering processes cannot be undermined in Ajikobi ward and Ilorin West as a whole. But contrastively to our electoral values and inputs, what we usually get in return is scheming out of every allocation of political appointments and empowerments distribution coming to our ward and this prompted our demostrations today 27th January, 2018.
We must make it known that part of our demostrations was locking up the APC party secretariat in our community so that our case can be treated with utmost priority and urgency as we believe the party stakeholders are part and parcel of the structures that can influence the government to look into our case.’’
Seeking for redress, the community youths in their request pleaded to all the concerned authorities to intervene in the matter…
“We hereby appeal to all the concerned authorities most especially the distinguished President of the Nigerian Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki who coincidentally hails from our ward to please look keenly into this and take necessary steps to address our yearnings in manner that will favour all sons and daughters of the community irrespective of political affliations.”
