As part of the efforts to sensitise the general public about what the Digital Switch Over (DSO) entails, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) under the leadership of her director general Mallam Ishiaq Moddibo Kawu took her sensitisation journey to citadel of learning to keep the students updated about what the ongoing transmission in the media section is all about.
The event which was held in University of Ilorin carefully selected participants from various departments in the school and equipped them with necessary digitization information essential for consumers, both within and outside school environment.
The exercise with the theme “Sensitization and Advocacy on Digital Switch Over ” abreast participants the nitty gritty of DSO, ranges from what is all about, how to connect, activate and where they will get STB, the attendant opportunities of DSO to the Nation, the industry, and the general public.
The coordinator of the campaign from Wellmeet Nig Ltd, Mr Ariyo gave a run down of the transition journey dated back to Geneva agreement in 2006 at International Telecommunication Union (ITU) meeting.
He emphasized further the role of students in important national project like DSO, adding that the commission believes in the ability of the participants to inform the ill-informed about digital broadcasting.
He therefore urged the participants to take the exercise serious so as to able to fulfill the objective of the exercise by bridging any knowledge gap that may arise from the public.
Some of the participants who spoke to our correspondent described the innovation as welcome development.
A 400 level student of sociology, Abdulahi jimoh has this to say ” I can say that i am now more knowledgeable about DSO.the job opportunity through opening up of industry for new entrants will contribute immensely to the national development.
Another participant , Abdulmajid Kehinde Oyewole from department of electrical engineering, applauded the commission for recognizing the role of Nigerian students and indeed for carrying them along in the matter of national development. He described DSO as a right step in the right direction and thanked the commission for the choice of choosing kwara among the first phase.
