It was a mammoth crowd at the palace of the longest serving monarch in Kwara State – Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Sa’adu Kawu Haliru when the indigenes of the ancient city had converged at the palace to participate in the free healthcare service and sensitization organized by the Lukman Mustapha Freedom Squad (LMFS) – One of the Socio-political group of Alhaji Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha (LOM) whom is a Gubernatorial aspirant in the state.
The group confirmed that LOM has been organizing and sponsoring such programmes before he declared his gubernatorial ambition, noting that the programme was aimed at ameliorating the weak stance of healthcare delivery in our vulnerable communities. They maintained that they were exposed to such philanthropic principles by their principal.
Addressing the indigenes, Mallam Mohammed Kawu, the Edu local government coordinator of the group said: “When we initiated this socio-political programme, we agreed to rebirth the state through education and health care programmes. We choose Lafiagi today, because we needed a place out of Kwara Central, since we had done many outreaches in Kwara Central already”. He noted that the free healthcare service is very pertinent due to the appalling status of our health system in the community and state as a whole.
In his address, The State Coordinator of Lukman Mustapha Freedom Squad, Mr. Onikanhun Kayode confirmed that it took proper planning, commitment of members and partnership with the community leaders to bring the activity into fruition.
Mr Onikanhun said “Every one of us keyed into the vision of LOM to impact positively in our society”. He explained that last month, they conducted a sanitation programme tagged OPERATION CLEAN THE KWARA MESS while they focused on health this month.
“We worked hand-in-hand with the people from the Kwara North Senatorial District, who mobilized members of the community for us. We brought our medical team who also worked hand-in-hand with the local medical team here”, Mr. Onikanhun added.
The State Cordinator also noted that a Medical Consultant, Dr Abubakar Alata from the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin was brought to sensitize members of the community on their health, while he headed the team (doctors, nurses and pharmacies) and gave free consultation and drugs to all the participants after their screening.
The Emir of Lafiagi who was ably represented by the Makun of Lafiagi, Alhaji Bello whom after his tests said he was impressed by the benevolence gesture of Alhaji Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha. He concluded that provision of affordable health care services for the people was not provided by this present administration’s policies.
The Maiyaki of Lafiagi, Alhaji AbdulMalik lamented that the present administration had not organized any healthcare programmes in the community before, and hereby advised the people to heed to the counsels they received at the lecture.
After conducting her high blood pressure, malaria and diabetes tests, an elderly market woman, Mrs. Falilat Bello, praised the group and prayed for Alhaji Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha for bypassing other communities to make her benefit from such rare gesture.
Mr. Hussein Qozeem, A civil servant and farmer said: “The gesture is very good. A lot of us needed medical attention, but we cannot afford tests, screening and drugs. We are very happy”. “We pray LMFS will do more and that Almighty Allah accept the prayer of Alhaji Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha on his ambition”, He concluded.
